Carolyn Smith
"Growing up I was brought up enjoying an array of sports from football, and hiking, to basketball and skiing. From a young age my father introduced me to the sport of tennis, he was my coach all through out high school, where I was ranked 80th in Southern California for the 16 and under age group, and when I graduated I was number one in the my valley. As I graduated I moved on to collegiate sports. I played division II tennis for Adelphi University allowing me to expand my game and grow as a player. I was nominated player of the month in 2009 by the ECC. Freshmen year I was awarded All-Conference. As our team moved up in conferences to the NE-10 I was able to once again progress as a player, through Senior year. Again being awarded All-Conference in doubles and singles play. After Graduation I started to coach professionally at the Westside Tennis Club and I was the head coach for Kew Forest High School. In the summer I realized that I needed to stay in shape, and there was a void growing as I was no longer a competing athlete, that's when I joined CrossFit. CrossFit had everything I wanted and so much more, and I am so excited to be a part of CrossFit Bayside’s team of trainers to fit your needs, and have you grow as an athlete."

Ken Berger
Ken Berger is a CrossFit Level 1 trainer at CrossFit Bayside. He's spent his entire professional career around sports as a columnist and reporter for the Associated Press, Newsday, and now, CBSSports.com, where he has covered the NBA since 2008. In 2009 -- motivated by the weight gain brought on by the traveling sportswriter lifestyle and inspired by his brother, Tim, an engineer in Atlanta -- he took up CrossFit and never looked back. What began as a monumental struggle to get through a few travel WODs in a Las Vegas hotel gym has progressed into a complete lifestyle makeover. Since those first, feeble attempts at stringing together more than one pullup at a time, Ken has lost nearly 25 pounds, achieved Level 1 trainer status and posted impressive showings in the 2013 CrossFit Games Open. Since joining the CrossFit Bayside family, Ken's personal fitness and coaching skills have taken off, and his emphasis on proper mechanics and mobility techniques has helped other members conquer new skills and achieve their goals. A native of West Islip, N.Y., Ken lives in Whitestone with wife, Melissa, and their two sons, Jason and Zachary, who have been known to show off their handstand walks and break-dancing moves at the box.
